An underused, undeveloped site in Porto's burgeoning Bonfim district features a topography with a 24-meter elevation change. Bonfim Housing aims to develop a mixed-use residential complex with diverse typologies and dynamic communal spaces.
The design approach includes a prominent section that navigates the topographic variation with a central lobby, which provides access to four distinct volumes that make up the social complex.
The scope encompasses site analysis, master planning, schematic design (SD), and design development (DD), covering an area of 7210 m².
“Eu acho que a grande força do teu projeto é uma ideia de imagem para aclamar aquela primeira ideia de ligar entre esses corpos; funciona encosta e depois consegues fazer com essa ideia, um edifício que funciona muito bem, muito ligado, muito claro...”
Manuel Aires Mateus, May 18th 2020
Inspired on Porto's sloped entrances, the access appears as a monumental staircase between massive concrete walls and a long ramp.
The entrance opening features a serene water body with an scenic marble sculpture that seems to be floating on still waters.
